Painting from life,
painting from memory
Each painting begins in the wild — a sketch, a photograph, a colour note made in fading light. Back in the studio, I work in oil, building form through layers of transparent glazes and impasto passages.
The landscape is never just scenery. It is mood, atmosphere, a particular quality of winter light on stone. I want the viewer to feel the cold in the shadows and the warmth of the last sun on a ridge.
